John Bowe

John Bowe and PAYCE have had a long association spanning more than a decade.

John is the only driver to win the Australian Drivers Championship, the Australian Sports Car Championship, the Australian Touring Car Championship and the Touring Car Masters Championship in a long and successful career.

In 1971, at the age of 16, he started racing Formula Vee and won the Tasmanian title on debut. Moving up the ranks of open-wheelers, he won the Formula Ford title the following year.

John is a two-time Australian Drivers Champion in open wheelers (1984 and 1985), twice winner of the Bathurst 1000 (1989 and 1994) and has twice won the Bathurst 12 Hour.

He is the most successful Touring Car Masters driver on record with four titles and a host of wins, poles and lap records to his credit. After switching from his popular TransAm Mustang, “Mustang Sally” to a Holden Torana SL/R 5000 for the 2015 season he went on to win that year’s TCM Championship.

In 2016, he continued to campaign the Torana and despite the strong competition from seasoned drivers, he successfully defended his title.

In 2017, the competition was even more intense, especially from Steve Johnson driving John’s former mount, ‘Mustang Sally”. The championship went down to the wire in the last race of the final round at Newcastle and John was just pipped by Steve for the championship.

2018 was a near repeat of the previous year, with Steve Johnson dominating most rounds with JB in close pursuit. Despite finishing the season strongly at Newcastle, John had to settle for runner-up in the championship for successive years, with Steve Johnson retaining his championship title.

In 2019, John continues to campaign the #18 Torana, with a striking Paynter Dixon livery.
