WILSON SECURITY SANDOWN 500 - 2017- BRIAN BOYD TCM WRAP UP
- PAYCE Head Office, Sydney NSW.
Brian Boyd said the competition in the category continues to grow as new cars and drivers are added to the ever-popular category and in some instances driver/car combinations return after some absences.
"John Bowe was expecting to work hard to hold onto his lead in the championship and Steve Johnson in JB's former Mustang Sally was the most likely one to be on his heels," Brian Boyd noted.
Practice and Qualifying a Close Call – Brian Boyd
"Practice confirmed this when Steve set fastest time in the session. but John was within four-thousands of a second of the top time.
"Qualifying later in the day saw JB turn the tables and pip Steve for fastest time. The reverse grid race one near the end of Friday was a victory for Steve with John back in the field in 8th place after both started at the rear of the field," Brian said.
"Race two saw John back in the winner's circle and Steve this time having to follow him home. The race was abandoned after Jason Gomersall made hard contact with the tyre barrier, requiring substantial re-building," Mr. Boyd continued.
Race Results Were Closer Still – Brian Boyd
Brian Boyd said Sunday's race was close, as were the results of each of the races over the weekend.
"Steve Johnson was able to hold JB off to take the chequered flag by less than half a second to wrap up the championship round for the weekend."
Brian said this series continues to grow in support by drivers and fans alike and it is no wonder when you have a field of 20 or so battling it out in close proximity to each other in every race.
JB Looks to Bathurst for Championship Gains – Brian Boyd
"The Touring Car Masters series also heads for Bathurst in a few weeks for the penultimate round of the championship," enthused Brian Boyd.
"What a spectacle they are thundering down through the esses and onto Conrod Straight.
"JB is still at the top of the leaderboard with just the two rounds to go, so his cheer squad will be right behind him to wrap up yet another championship early if possible at Bathurst," Brian Boyd concluded.
