JB Well on the Way to a Speedy Recovery from his Winton Injuries – Brian Boyd
Brian Boyd said John Bowe was well on the way to a speedy recovery from his injuries sustained at Winton and ready to do battle with his sparring partner Steve Johnson in the former Mustang Sally and a host of other drivers in the 22 TCM field.
"We were all happy to see him fit to contest the Darwin round after he initially thought he might have to give it a miss," Mr. Boyd said.
"Proudly wearing a brace to protect his injured ribs, JB was no doubt pleased to be back in the #18 PAYCE Torana after its equally speedy recovery from the Winton incident.
"JB was full of praise for everyone who put in the many hours to get the car in race condition," Brian Boyd said.
John was Strong on Pace from the Outset – Brian Boyd
"John was strong on pace from the outset, posting the quickest time in practice session 1 and second fastest in session 2, being pipped by Steve Johnson by just 1/100ths of a second.
"Going on the results of the two sessions, it was clear both JB and Steve would be the ones to beat over the weekend," Boyd projected.
"Qualifying on Saturday was closely fought between the two with Steve getting the better time by 35/100ths of a second.
Reverse Grid for Race 1 on Saturday Brings Gearbox Woes to JB – Brian Boyd
"Race one on Saturday was a reverse grid with fastest to the rear and as usual a real crowd-pleaser and a heart-stopper for many of the drivers. John's run was short-lived as he suffered a gearbox failure that put him out for the day," reported Brian Boyd.
An overnight session saw the #18 Torana back to good as new condition with the gearbox problem solved.
JB Hounds Johnson all the way Home – Brian Boyd
In the first race on Sunday, Brian Boyd said Johnson led all the way hounded by JB, who was like a terrier biting at the Mustang's heels.
"Despite some gallant looks by JB to pass in the twisty turns and at the end of the long straight, the Mustang was just too strong and Johnson took the win from JB," Brian said.
Another Great Bowe Versus Johnson Battle in Race 3 – Brian Boyd
"Race 3 was eagerly awaited by the fans and they were treated to another great Bowe versus Johnson battle."
Brian Boyd said Johnson was quicker off the line but this time around, JB found some extra pace to take the lead at the end of the straight on lap 7.
"He then pulled away from the Mustang to take a well-deserved victory," a smiling Brian Boyd added.
The next round of the Touring Car Masters will be at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint event on 28-30 July, 2017.
