GRM and the Dunlop Super2 Series at the Phillip Island 500 - 2017 Season

The WD 40 Phillip Island Event continues to be a season favourite of the Garry Rogers Motorsport team.

Setup and Rain has Drivers 10 seconds adrift - Brian Boyd

The Friday morning early practice session was run on a damp track for the Dunlop Super2 cars, although the rain thankfully held off. Lap times were more than 10 seconds adrift and most drivers and teams concentrated on setup. The red flag came out twice as a result of off-track excursions in the session.

Brian Boyd said all three PAYCE drivers finished the session around midfield with the cars intact.

Conditions Improve for Qualifying Session – Brian Boyd

"Conditions improved somewhat later in the morning for qualifying as the track started to dry.

"Richard quickly found pace and topped the timesheets with just five minutes to go before slipping back to 4th. Macauley in the #14 PAYCE Commodore also found early pace and was able to stay in the top ten times throughout the session and finished with 10th fastest time.

"Mason in the #99 Commodore had to settle for 19th spot on the grid for the first of four races over the meeting," offered Brian Boyd.

Slippery Conditions for Race 1 sees PAYCE Drivers Thrive - Brian Boyd

The slippery conditions for Race 1 saw all three PAYCE drivers improve their grid positions. Richard in the #44 Commodore finished 7th with Macauley coming home close behind in 8th. Mason moved up a hearty six positions to finish in 13th place.

Race 2 a Carbon Copy - Brian Boyd

Race 2 on Saturday looked to be a carbon copy of the previous day's race with Richard coming home again in 7th and Macauley in 8th place. Mason dropped a couple of spots to finish in16th position.

Sunny Conditions for Race 3 Delivers Great Result - Brian Boyd

Race 3 later in the day was run in sunny conditions, giving Richard and the PAYCE team their best result with Richard's 5th placing. Macauley came home with another top 10 result in 10th spot.

Mason had to contend with battling in the pack and finished 18th.

Final Phillip Islamd 500 Race a Fierce Battle - Brian Boyd

The final race of the Phillip Island round on Sunday was again a fierce battle and both Richard and Macauley excelled, completing their race with another pair of top 10 finishes in the bag.

"Richard led the PAYCE group home in 8th place, with Macauley one spot back and Mason finishing where he started in 18th," Brian Boyd said.

"Over the four races of this round there were three different winners, demonstrating how competitive the series is this year. The racing is also of high quality and interest from fans is at an all-time high," Brian Boyd finished.

The Dunlop Super2 series now has a break until it returns at the Townsville 400 for round 4 on 7-9 July 2017.
