SUPERCHEAP AUTO BATHURST 1000 MEETING - Mt PANORAMA - BRIAN BOYD WRAP-UP OF DUNLOP SERIES

  • PAYCE Headquarters, Sydney NSW.

The Dunlop Series endurance race at Bathurst continues to be a great training ground for future full-time Supercars drivers - Mr Brian Boyd.

"All three Team PAYCE drivers in James Golding, Richard Muscat and Macauley Jones have been impressive all year.

With James Goldings two wins as the standout performances, this year's appearance was bound to help the team in their motorsport pursuit of victory," noted Mr Brian Boyd.

Return to Bathurst ...

"This year's Bathurst meeting was a return visit for James and Macauley in the category, but they also had co-driving duties in the Bathurst 1000, so it was an extremely busy four days of practice and competition to meet all their commitments.

"For Richard, it was his first drive in the category at Bathurst, although he is very familiar with the track and competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup there last year."

Mini`s take to the mountain trail.

In Thursday's practice, James was quickest of the field, while Richard banked a 7th fastest time and Macauley was not far behind in 11th place. In Friday's qualifying session all three drivers maintained their good form and made it into the top 10 times, with Macauley the best performer with a third fastest time that put him on the second row for the mini enduro over 250 kilometres.

The start of the mini enduro was a rush for Hell Corner, but Macauley bogged down and lost several positions, while Richard fared much better and went from tenth to sixth by the first corner.

All drivers had been cautioned about taking unreasonable risks during the race and their behaviour was better than had been the case recently.

Of the three Team PAYCE drivers, Richard Muscat had the best race, just missing out on a podium and coming home in 4th place, while Macauley Jones fought hard for a well-deserved 9th place. James Golding was a non-finisher.

All three drivers continue in the top ten on the leaderboard, with James Golding 5th, Macauley Jones 9th and Richard Muscat 10th.

The final round of the Dunlop Series will be at the Coates Hire Sydney 500 meeting at Homebush on 2-4 December 2016.
