Willowbank Queensland Raceway in Ipswich sees the Supercars and the TCM categories return later this week.

The Supercar teams are thrilled at the likelihood of catching some sunny weather in Queensland prior to heading to the much colder climes for the upcoming two rounds in Sydney and Melbourne.

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said Team PAYCE will be represented by Scott McLaughlin and James Moffat in Wilson Security Racing GRM's #33 and #34 Volvos S60s.

"Team PAYCE drivers, James Golding, David Wall and Macauley Jones are also expected to take to the track for the special practice session on Friday for co-drivers competing in the upcoming Pirtek Enduro Cup series," Brian Boyd said.

The 3.12 kilometre 'paperclip' track is familiar to all competing Team PAYCE drivers and over the years they have enjoyed some good results in all categories.

As usual, the race event starts on Friday with practice sessions, then qualifying and racing over the balance of the weekend.

Scott and James Have Delivered Good Results at Ipswich in the Past – Brian Boyd

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said Scott posted a strong second place podium finish last year and had a race win back in 2013 in the pre-Volvo era, so he can take heart in that he knows the track well and has had success in the past.

"James also had a good result last year in the Nissan with a top ten finish in the second race, but of course this will be his first visit behind the wheel of the Volvo so there may be some quick learning of the Volvo's traits on this particular track," Mr. Boyd said.

"Both Scott and James will be looking for a better result than the last round in Townsville though where lady luck deserted them," continued Brian Boyd.

Townsville Results did not Reflect the Concerted Efforts of the GRM Team – Brian Boyd

Brian Boyd said the Garry and the GRM team made lots of changes throughout the Townsville weekend trying to get the combination right with both cars, but came away generally disappointed with the weekend, knowing the potential of the cars and the drivers.

"Although it must be said Scotty was able to put in a good performance to make the top ten shootout and James did a good job to qualify 9th for the first race.

"The pit strategies and safety car sessions did not go their way and when added to grip problems and Scotty's lengthy time in the pits, the end results did not really reflect the concerted efforts both drivers and pit crew put in over the weekend," Brian Boyd said.

"Importantly, the GRM team remain confident that the cars have the pace and reliability to run consistently in the top ten and that strong results are achievable at Willowbank and the remaining rounds of the championship.

Good Qualifying Times at Ipswich will be Critical – Brian Boyd

"The records show that over the past 23 races held at the track, the winner has come from the front row of the grid 20 times, so if the odds are any indication, a good qualifying time will be critical, as will be keeping away from any carnage that has regrettably been part of the close racing in recent races," Mr. Boyd added.

"The heartening news is that although Scotty dropped a couple of positions in the championship after Townsville to 5th spot, he is still very much in contention to be at the top of the leaderboard come December," finished Brian Boyd.

There is also an extra practice session for enduro co-drivers leading up to the long distance races, starting with the Sandown 500 in Melbourne on 16-18 September.
