V8 Dunlop Series - Pit Stop Strategy Plays a Big Role in Final Results - Brian Boyd PAYCE

The Barbagallo Raceway meeting was the third round of the seven round Dunlop Series for 2016.

The unpredictable weather conditions played a huge role in determining places throughout the Friday practices and the Saturday qualifying session.

The younger racers applied themselves well and got in some invaluable wet weather experience, and for Richard some track time on a circuit new to him.

PAYCE Team Members Pull Together in Changing Conditions – Brian Boyd

Best practice performances by the three PAYCE team members were James' 3rd; Macauley's 4th and Richard's 5th, all in practice 2.

The teams all started on wet tyres for qualifying on Saturday, though a drying track saw everyone scrambling back in the pits for slicks. With only a few laps left to get up to speed and deliver a clean run, by the end of the session Macauley had qualified in 7th position, James 8th and Richard 14th.

Race 1 started with a dry track, but conditions readily deteriorated through the race and rain on lap 21 of the 28 lap race brought out the safety car. The safety car signalled an end to racing, with Macauley in 7th, James in10th and Richard 13th.

Race 2 delivered the closest racing of the round, with James jumping several positions at the start. James came within a whisper of pulling off a great win with just 3/100ths of a second separating him from the race leader as they crossed the finishing line

Despite his team's tyre strategy quite not working to plan, Macauley drove a strong race and managed to hold onto a top 10 finish. Richard moved up a several positions to finish in 12th place.

The 3rd race was interrupted by safety car sessions on laps 10 and 17, with Macauley not able to exploit his team's decision to keep some fresher tyres for the final race. At race end, all three PAYCE drivers were in the top 10 - James 4th; Macauley 5th and Richard 9th, ending the day and a tough round on a positive note. The next round is in Townsville in early July.

"The Dunlop Series is proving to be just as competitive and exciting as the Supercars and all three PAYCE supported drivers are having a great season with plenty of top 10 results, including a couple of podiums for young James Golding," said Brian Boyd.
