JB competes in the Torana SL/R for the TCM 2016 Championship – Brian Boyd

John Bowe has chosen a new strategy for the TCM 2016 championship, electing to compete in the Torana SL/R 5000, rather than in his 'Mustang Sally' TransAm Mustang. John was the winner of the 2015 championship and enjoyed a field-beating season, albeit with several rounds missed throughout the season.

John and the race team arrived in Adelaide this year quietly confident of a good round and with the car featuring updated PAYCE livery. A racing legend, John was more than aware that the competition would have been hard at work during the off-season break the 2016 event also saw some new cars on the grid for the first time.

Practice Session Times Tumble as JB Wrings More Performance from the Torana – Brian Boyd

First practice on Thursday saw John satisfied with his 4th fastest lap time, knowing he had more performance in the car to unlock. The new machinery impressed with their lap times, demonstrating that the 2016 series would conceivably be more competitive than the previous year.

The practice two session had John second on the times. JB was more than satisfied with the performance of the Torana as he was only one of two drivers to get into the 1.29s window. A great session for John.

John Pipped by only 1/100 second in the Friday Qualifying Session – Brian Boyd

Qualifying on Friday for the first race held immense promise for a number one spot on the starting grid until John was pipped by a mere 1/100 second. Stating race 1 on the front row none the less, John held position but was unable to pass the leader, finishing where he started in a race truncated to 8 laps due to several race incidents and an inevitable safety car session. Saturday's race two resulted in car #18 finishing in third position after a wrangle with the tyre barrier, throwing the front suspension out of alignment.

Championship Points Well Deserved – Brian Boyd

For the Clipsal 500 round, only the first two races counted toward the championship as the third race was a reverse grid, making the racing more entertaining and dynamic for the fans. JB was able to work his way from the back of the grid through most of the field to finish in a respectable 6th position in race 3. John was second overall for the round.
