DUNLOP WRAP UP - Clipsal 500 in Adelaide

  • PAYCE Headquarters, Sydney NSW.

The 2016 season opener, the Clipsal 500 meeting is held at one of the most formidable circuits of the championship.

There were additional challenges for all teams represented at the inaugural 2016 event with the track conditions and confusion regarding the rules.

Brian Boyd and Team PAYCE witnessed dynamic racing from the young squad of racers as well as standout performances from Aussie Motorsport Legend, Jim Bowe.

New PAYCE Cars Settle in Well at the Season Opener – Brian Boyd

All three PAYCE drivers were behind the wheel of new cars for the season and subsequently faced a challenging time. Thursday's first two practice sessions gave the indication that they would all be very competitive, based on the initial lap times posted. James Golding posted a best time to finish 5th and Macauley Jones managed 10th. Meanwhile, Richard Muscat ended first practice in 13th position and he unfortunately did not have the opportunity to post a faster time, covering only two laps in the second practice stint.

The qualifying session on Friday for the first race later in the day ended with all 3 drivers posting top 10 times– James in 7th, Macauley in 6th and Richard in 10th. Race 1 demonstrated to be drama-filled for many of the teams, ours included. Macauley Jones was involved in numerous on track incidents, forcing him back to a 21st position finish. James, well-positioned in the top 5, was turned around and regrettably dropped back in the field to finish in 13th spot. Richard on the other hand, kept clear of all trouble and came home with a fierce drive, ending in 5th position.

Race 2 was action all the way with a number of cars having to retire, including Richard's #44. Richard had a coming together with the wall at turn 8, not faring well enough to continue. The two other PAYCE cars performed without dire incident and Macauley recorded a best finish in 5th, while James came home in 3rd. The overall results now placed James in third position for the round, bagging his first podium of the season, which was celebrated with the team in true style.

Brian Boyd and all at Team PAYCE congratulate the drivers and teams on their excellent performances over the weekend.
